About Turtle Bay/United Nations

When you step onto the grounds for the United Nations, you have not only left Manhattan, but you have left the United States as well. The United Nations is considered to be International Territory owned by all of the nations who belong to the UN. However the surrounding neighborhoods are still in Manhattan.

This area is mainly made up of Tudor City, Beekman Place and Midtown East, with apartment buildings and townhouses for the residents, many of whom are diplomats to the UN. It is a pricey neighborhood to live in, and if you're not a diplomat don't expect to find parking anywhere in this part of town, as it's all reserved during the week and on Saturdays for the U.N. consulates.

There is a park on the grounds of the United Nations. It's free to walk into (just don't bring any food or beverages with you). Inside you will find a beautiful rose garden. Roam amongst almost every color and type of rose imaginable, then stroll over to view the East River.
