Since 1924, this Off-Broadway theater has forged a reputation for sponsoring undiscovered playwrights who later go on to become giants in their field. Among those whose early works were featured here are Eugene O'Neill, Joe Orton, Albee, Mamet and F. Scott Fitzgerald. To this day, they go out of their way to seek out new and extraordinary talent.

One of the biggest names in Off-Broadway productions since 1955, the Lucille Lortel Foundation has been showcasing non-profit theater since 1999. Their shows have a history of drawing some well-known names of stage and screen, such as Uta Hagen, John Cameron Mitchell and Adam Arkin.
