A classic brass and wood Irish Bar. The Guinness is great. The food is far better than average for bar grub. The Irish brunch on Sundays is always a true stand-out. The crowd here tends to be a nice mix of everyone from 20-something Wall-Streeters to 70-something Irish grandmas. More often than not, it's the grandmothers causing the biggest ruckus.

The menu changes daily at this inventive French restaurant, depending on what's fresh from the sea, the hunt or the garden. On a good day the food is a real treat, but on an off day you might find yourself wondering what the chef was thinking when he concocted some of these odd recipes. Luckily, that's still a fairly rare event. More often than not, Etats-Unis delivers the goods.

This great Italian trattoria has been in the neighborhood for over twenty years. The interior is a step up from the usual hole-in-the-wall Italian, but the atmosphere is far from stuffy. Great pasta and fabulous seafood specials. The word is that chefs from other restaurants come here to eat when their shifts are done. Now, that's a recommendation.

This Peruvian joint will give you one of the bangs for your buck in the city. The slightly spicy chicken is amazing and comes with a special green sauce for an extra kick. The Matador Combination offers the adventurous palate plate after plate of Peruvian specialties. Be forewarned, this place gets packed on weekends. Luckily, they also do take-out and delivery.

This lovely little wine bar is located right across the street from the restaurant of the same name. The wine selection is surprisingly good, and there are plenty of delicious small entrées available to go with them: A perfect place for a date or just a quiet moment.

The thin crust pizzas here are among the city's best. The rest of the menu, however, is hit or miss. The informal atmosphere and casual setting make this a great place to bring the kids. The fact that Totanno's keeps expanding to new locations must mean something.

This upscale American has been treated like a neighborhood treasure for years. Located on a quite stretch of York Avenue, the crowd is mostly local. However, its tasty filets and decadent deserts have begun to entice stragglers to this hidden gem.
