As the southern promontory for the huge and fine Battery Park City development along the Hudson River in Lower Manhattan, this 40-story, mixed-use tower, which was completed in the spring of 2001, has 114 condominium apartments above 311 Ritz-Carlton hotel rooms.

The tower, which is known as The Ritz Carlton Residences at 10 West Street has a red-brick and silver-colored fa?ade not unlike some other projects of the developer, Millennium Partners, in the Lincoln Center area.

It was designed by Gary Edward Handel + Associates and Polshek Partnership Architects.

 

Bottom Line

The waterfront ambiance at Battery Park City is the most spectacular in Manhattan and the apartments in this full-service development have stupendous views and large and very attractive layouts.

Description

The east portion of the tower, which rises over a handsomely curved base, is red-brick while the west section is glass with an angled top that rises in the direction of New Jersey.  It is the southernmost tower at Battery Park City and therefore has unobstructed vistas of the harbor and the Statue of Liberty.

Amenities

Its apartments have 24-hour doorman and concierge service, room-service, valet parking, conference and business facilities, and a spa and fitness center on the 14th floor sundeck as well as a major restaurant in the building.

 Public transportation is not too convenient although there is a subway station a few blocks to the east at Bowling Green. The World Financial Center in Battery Park City, several blocks to the north, has a major retail and restaurant center.

Apartments

The building has many corner windows to take advantage of its spectacular vistas overlooking the harbor and the downtown skyline.

Apartment 20G is a two-bedroom unit with a foyer that leads to a large living/dining room with a three-side windowed corner next to a pass-through kitchen.

Apartment 21G is a three-bedroom unit with a 12-foot-wide entrance gallery that leads past a 15-foot-long open kitchen with an island next to a 10-foot-long dining area that opens on to a 30-foot-long corner living room with angled windows.  The unit also has a 22-foot-long library.

Apartment 24G is a two-bedroom unit with a 10-foot-long entry foyer that leads to a 12-foot-wide gallery that leads past an 11-foot-long pass-through kitchen to dining room and corner living room that are 38-feet long.

Apartment 32G has a small foyer that leads to a 18-foot-square gallery that opens onto a 39-foot-long living/dining room next to a 22-foot-long, windowed kitchen.  He unit has three very large bedrooms and a wine cooler.

Apartment 17A is a three-bedroom unit with a large foyer leading to an angled, corner, 33-foot-long living/dining room next to an enclosed kitchen.

Apartment 15E is a four-bedroom unit with a foyer that leads to a 17-foot-long gallery and a 24-foot-long hall.  It has a 26-foot-long living room and a 13-foot-long dining room next to an enclosed 12-foot-long kitchen.

History

Millennium Partners also worked with the Ritz-Carlton hotel chain to convert the former St. Moritz Hotel on the southeast corner of Central Park South and the Avenue of the Americas into a Ritz-Carlton Hotel with 12 residences on the top floors.
