The Montparnasse, 25 West 13th Street: Review and Ratings

between Fifth Avenue & Avenue of the Americas View Full Building Profile

Review of 25 West 13th Street by Carter Horsley

This attractive, 7-story, light red-brick, apartment building was erected in 1959. It was converted to a cooperative in 1981 and has 183 apartments.

Not far from some of the best buildings on Lower Fifth Avenue, one of the city's most elegant neighborhoods, and close to the Jefferson Market good store and the Jefferson Market Library on the Avenue of the Americas, this building has an excellent location that is convenient to Greenwich Village, Chelsea and the Union Square districts.

While 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Streets between Fifth Avenue and the Avenue of the Americas are among the city's most attractive residential blocks, this block has some commercial uses.

The building has a canopied entrance with a white-marble surround beneath some fire-escapes, a nice lobby, a doorman, a garage, a garden, sidewalk landscaping with spiked planters, discrete air-conditioners, and basement storage, but no roof deck, no balconies and no health club.

Not far from the "Ladies' Mile" historic district of large former department stores along the Avenue of the Americas and six blocks north of Washington Square Park, this area abounds in interesting architecture and many restaurants. There is excellent public transportation in the area.
