In a section of Manhattan that has seen one glass skyscraper after another in recent years, Sir David Adjaye’s first New York skyscraper at 130 William Street comes as a welcome treat. The hand-crafted concrete facade is almost all the way up the 66-story building, and the dramatic arched windows are attracting attention both online and at street level.
When sales launched at 130 William in August 2018, 30 contracts were signed in less than 30 days. As of this writing, summer occupancy is anticipated, and remaining availabilities range from a one-bedroom for $1.35 million to a three-bedroom unit with private loggia for $6.89 million. At an average price of $2,052 per square foot, the building comes in well above the Financial District’s average condo price of $1,163 per square foot (figures per CityRealty data).

It is important to note that the arched windows will steal the show inside 130 William as well as out. The units feature large walls for displaying an art collection, but even the greatest works of art will wind up fighting with the oversized, bronze-detailed windows as the focal point of the rooms. Interior design aficionados will observe that much of the furniture in the listing images is softly curved so as to create a harmonious atmosphere. These types of windows also present a challenge when it comes to adding shades or blinds.
However, some would quip that those are problems one wants to have. The windows will flood the apartments with incredible natural light and spectacular city and river views. Moreover, while certain interior design considerations must be taken, the windows will work with any aesthetic - the style originated in the Old World and can easily be adapted to a modern atmosphere like the one enjoyed at 130 William. As Sir David Adjaye said, “130 William evokes the past, but it also explores the possibilities of urban, vertical living.”
