Seemingly every block in East Williamsburg has a new building coming out of the ground. The area’s conservative zoning keeps the lid on so-called “finger buildings” and assures that new additions complement its low-scale character. Joining the hodgepodge will be a ground-up, 6-floor multi-family building at 583 Lorimer Street. The site is located around the corner from mom and pop-heavy Metropolitan Avenue and a short walk from its G and L-train subway station.

Since the initial building permits were filed in fall 2013, it has been a slow go for the project which has been stalled at the foundation stage for more than a year. Now, it appears work is ready to restart with a batch of recently approved applications and a new rendering posted along the construction fence. Paperwork shows the prolific Bricolage Designs are the architects and Eric Orlofsky of 583 Lorimer St LLC is the owner. They closed on the parcel for $2.25M in 2013 according to city records.

The posted rendering shows the exterior will be a forgettable affair with wood slats along the first floor and square windows with Juliet balconies above. Inside will be 10 apartments that include a single ground floor unit and a duplex on the 5th and 6th floors.
