There's no denying that co-living has become a legitimate living option here in New York City, and over the past year several projects have debuted using this model, like Common Baltic in Boerum Hill and the forthcoming rentals at 29-26 Northern Boulevard in Long Island City.
At another site in LIC that was once home to a bowling alley, new rentals have debuted offering a co-living experience that is simply a "practical approach to NYC living," says the team behind the project. The 7-story building, dubbed The Lanes, is at 37-10 Crescent Street and is among a plethora of new residential buildings that have caused a chart-topping apartment boom in the neighborhood. Apartments have either two three bedrooms and listings offer a month of free rent, with the two-bedrooms starting at $2,800/month and three-bedrooms starting at $4,200/month.
The Lanes has fully-equipped private apartments, and the co-living components are rooted in design features like flexible layouts, for instances when there are several roommates, and amenities that not only provide enough space for individual use, but are fashioned to encourage community experiences.

The flexible layouts are also functional, and floor plans show a standardized room design that allows for a seamless reconfiguration of the space. Within the unit is a kitchenette and a full suite of appliances, and a dining table is included. Each apartment has a private, full bathroom (some units have 1.5 bathrooms), and on select units there are private terraces. Large windows create bright and open spaces but with the maximum three-bedroom layout, common space is tight - and that's when the shared amenities become even more appealing.
There is a landscaped roof deck on the 7th floor that has areas to lounge, work, entertain by the fireplace or even cook-out on the grill, and the Manhattan skyline views are impressive. Other amenities include a fitness center, a game room, an outdoor landscaped courtyard, a library with work space, and a penthouse lounge for hanging out or hosting events. The building has a community manager, a package room, and on-site laundry, parking and bike storage. But the building-wide WiFi is likely the most appreciated amenity.
