The former school building at 17 Monitor Street in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn was erected in 1906, and was the St. Cecilia Catholic School until its closure around 2008. It was subsequently leased to developers and converted to a residential property, making its debut as high-end rentals in 2015. Watermark Capital Group and ND Architecture & Design led the redevelopment, aiming to provide a "residential retreat" while honoring its 20th-century design.

Rising to five floors, the structure's exterior is organized symmetrically, and has a mansard roof and central arched entrance along Monitor Street. Its elaborate façade is wrapped in warm orange brick, accented by geometric ornamentation of gray-colored terra cotta.

From the lobby with light fixtures made of bicycle wheels to the outstanding roof deck with a backdrop of the Manhattan skyline - and everything in between, the rental offers an exciting take on high-end living.

Interior design embraced the original structure and many brick walls were left exposed in apartments and common areas. Homes, some of which have stairway-accessible lofts, are equipped with hardwood floors, vaulted casement windows, stone countertops and stainless steel appliances. Several rentals are available in the 69-unit building; two-bedrooms are priced from $3,250/month and three-bedrooms are priced from $4,000/month. See listings here.

Building amenities include a fitness center and yoga studio, a lounge with a pool table and leather couches, and a furnished rooftop with areas to lounge and enjoy Manhattan skyline views. There is also onsite laundry, a virtual doorman and a gated parking lot. Subway transit is available at the Graham Ave stop on the L train, about a five minute walk from the building.
