Manhattan Sales:

  • From June 12-18, 2022, $762,453,170 worth of transactions across 327 condo, condop, and cooperative deals were recorded
  • 160 condo sales came to a median price of $1,667,528 ($1,854 per square foot)
  • Eight condop sales came to a median price of $1,600,000
  • 159 co-op sales came to a median price of $860,000
In fall 2017, when it was announced that the Crown Building at 730 Fifth Avenue would be converted to Aman's first New York outpost with 20 condos on top, architecture, real estate, and hospitality enthusiasts immediately took notice. The pandemic led to some delays, but closings have now commenced on the residential units. The five-level penthouse with an asking price of $180 million was not among them, but an apartment asking $56,164,523 led the past week's sales. It was trailed by an apartment a few floors down that closed for $29,091,375. Elsewhere in the building, another apartment closed for $20,409,896.

The past week's top sale outside Aman New York Residences, and third-highest overall, was a penthouse at One Central Park West (as the residential component of Trump International is now known) that closed for an even $25,000,000. Seller Mel Karmazin is the co-founder and former president of Infinity Broadcasting, which merged with CBS Radio in 2017. He also served as the president of Sirius XM from 2004 to 2013; at the time of his departure, his pay and severance reportedly amounted to over $255 million. His son Craig Karmazin has followed in his footsteps--he is the founder of Good Karma Broadcasting, which purchased three ESPN Radio owned-and-operated stations for $15 million in December 2021.

Last week, Curbed wondered, “Why do the men of Saturday Night Live have such horrifying apartments?” That is no longer the case for “Weekend Update” anchor Colin Jost—he has sold his West Village duplex, a home in a beautiful location but with a slightly odd layout and decor, for just under the $2.5 million ask when it was listed last September. His next move is not clear, but he and his wife, Oscar-nominated actress Scarlett Johansson, were seen looking at the penthouse at The Wales earlier this spring.

From the Listing:
Unit 2 has an abundance of charm to make this the picture-perfect home. Through the entry foyer, the well-proportioned living room features exposed brick, a wood-burning fireplace and French doors to a Juliet balcony overlooking an intimate private garden. Adjacent is the windowed kitchen with a suite of integrated stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher and a faience tile backsplash. The secondary bedroom continues to stun with shuttered windows and an exposed tub for ultimate relaxation. A separate water closet and generous closet space completes the bedroom suite. The garden level acts as an extension of the main living area but can be conceived in a multitude of ways and offers access to the private outdoor area.
