Architectural trends come and go, but the bay window has been a popular part of building styles from Queen Anne to Georgian to contemporary. They would appear to be a key part of historic townhouses seen on a walk through parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan, but have been reinterpreted to dramatic effect at new construction like Lantern House and 11 Hoyt Street, to name a few.

In addition to adding a touch of architectural interest on the outside, bay windows can have a dramatic effect on a home's interior. Not only do they fill the room with light, but they can also make the rooms appear larger. Some imaginative designers will use creative colors and/or upholstery to make the bay window the focal point of the room, while others use it as a space for a built-in window seat or desk. This looks amazing at any time of year, and also serves as the focal point for decorations of all holidays.
The Corinthian Apartment at Lantern House (Corcoran)
Humans aren't the only ones in search of a comfy home and appreciate the incredible light pouring in from bay windows. Cats and dogs can also be found basking in the sunlight, taking naps on the ledge, and awaiting their human's return from even the briefest of errands. A pet adoption boom took hold during the coronavirus pandemic, and New Yorkers are still eager to find furry friends. As we look at New York apartments with bay windows, we also introduce you to shelter cats and dogs who would be happy to make their forever home in such a sunny setting.
