At a time when Central Park Tower and One Vanderbilt have topped out into the stratosphere, 180 East 88th Street's height of 524 feet seems tame by comparison. However, this does make it the tallest residential building north of 72nd Street on the Upper East Side, much to the chagrin of some residents who saw it as a threat to the unobstructed views they enjoy. As time passed, though, designer and developer DDG's masonry-inspired brick facade, tapered crown, soaring arches, and oversized bronze-framed windows make it a striking addition to the neighborhood and the skyline on the whole. The building reached its full height in February 2019, and closings began in late spring. At an average of $2,220 per square foot, this puts the building well above the Carnegie Hill average of $1,636 per square foot.

Much attention has been paid to 180 East 88th Street’s eye-catching architecture, super-luxe residential amenities, and collaboration with the nearby 92nd Street Y. However, as a recently unveiled model unit shows, the apartments themselves are equally awe-inspiring. Designer Hadas Dembo describes the aesthetic of the three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home as “a downtown take on uptown living.” Polished gold accents, custom wall coverings, and one-of-a-kind products from R & Company and works of art convey the luxury the building and neighborhood are best known for. However, fluffy textures and pastel shades lend the space a playful and inviting sophistication. It is on the market for $4.635 million.
