Bette Midler

When all-star entertainer Bette Midler bought her Fifth Avenue triplex in 1996, it appeared to be the perfect fit: It was a short trip to both the Theater District and Carnegie Hall, close to her daughter’s school, and rich in the outdoor space she holds close to her heart. But now that she and husband Martin von Haselberg (not pictured) are empty nesters, the “country house in the city” is starting to feel a little too big for them. The New York Times broke the news that they have put it on the market and plan to downsize to a smaller Manhattan home.

From the listing:

This magnificent and impressive 14-room penthouse occupies the top three floors of one of Fifth Avenue's finest full service prewar cooperative buildings on Carnegie Hill. The residence offers spectacular views of Central Park, the Reservoir and the iconic Manhattan skyline. Abundant sunlight streams in throughout the day from all four exposures.

Upon arrival, a private elevator landing opens onto a large open gallery flooded with southern light. The gallery flows into an impressive and vast 70 foot sweep of entertaining space with exceptionally high ceilings. This ideal entertaining space includes a double living room, large open dining room, and a sun-drenched renovated eat-in-kitchen.

It’s not surprising to hear about celebrities buying apartments in New York, but Alex Rodriguez has taken that one step further and bought a whole apartment building. The New York Post says he is part of an investment team that purchased Allen House, a 14-story, 423-unit rental in Turtle Bay, and has grand plans for it: The building will be rebranded with the Stonehenge name, the apartments will be upgraded with new electricity and in-unit washer/dryers, and a gym will be added to the amenities.

Karlie Kloss

Is model Karlie Kloss saying good-bye to New York? A look at her recent real estate history might lead one to think so—barely a month since she and husband Josh Kushner sold their Nolita apartment, she’s putting her small West Village townhouse on the market too. The Wall Street Journal reports that she paid $1.975 million for it in 2012, and it is now listed for $2.75 million.

From the listing:

A rare offering – your own private townhouse with front garden in a highly sought after West Village location. This three-story home includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen and separate den. With a wrought iron gate, landscaped front garden and second floor terrace set against a red brick facade, this home is the epitome of charm.

Upon entry, a chic foyer leads into a grand proportioned living room with soaring 12-foot ceilings. This space is ideally suited for entertaining, currently set up with multiple seating areas. A short stair leads up to a beautifully renovated eat-in kitchen with breakfast nook and a full secondary bathroom. The kitchen is outfitted with stainless steel appliances and includes plentiful cabinetry and countertop space.

It has been said that living well is the best revenge, and talk show host Wendy Williams is living proof of that. After divorcing her husband in the spring, Page Six reported that she has moved out of their New Jersey home and ascended to a three-bedroom, three-bath rental in a luxurious Financial District building. The mid-level home’s floor-to-ceiling windows look out on spectacular city views, and she has ready access to amenities like a gym, pool, and entertainment lounge.
50 West has 8 available listings from $1.595M.

Tommy Hilfiger

Eleven years, an extensive renovation, and several price cuts later, the Plaza penthouse owned by Tommy Hilfiger and wife Dee Ocleppo (not pictured) has entered contract. The designer bought the corner duplex for $25.5 million in 2008 and tried to flip it for $50 million a few months later, but the recession may have staved off interest. The home went back on the market for a whopping $80 million following renovations, and the price has since dropped. The New York Post broke the news and added that some of the furniture will be included in the deal.

Some people enlist the aid of a designer or stager when they put their home on the market, but interior design power couple Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent (not pictured) took matters into their own hands. As the couple puts their Greenwich Village one-bedroom on the market, they’ve styled the space with pieces from both of their current collections. 6sqft reports that buyers have the option to buy the co-op fully furnished.

Nestled in a classic 19th-century brownstone just off historic lower Fifth Avenue, sits this enchanting and sun-drenched one-bedroom apartment. Masterfully styled by renowned interior designers, Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent, the home boasts high-end design while preserving the authenticity of the apartment. The marble fireplace, three oversized south-facing windows and shutters are beautifully maintained original details.

In addition, the apartment offers 11'4 ceilings, comes with storage and there is laundry in the building. 2 East 12th Street is a discreet and intimate 10-unit co-op located in the heart of Greenwich Village and perfectly situated near Washington Square Park, Union Square Park and numerous choices for world class dining, shopping and transportation.

Actress Zosia Mamet is best known for her work on the Brooklyn-set “Girls,” but has declared her love for the Upper West Side. That is where she and her husband, actor Evan Jonigkeit, bought an apartment in a Rosario Candela-designed building. They paid $1.22 million for it 2015, and the New York Post announced that they have listed it for $1.29 million.

From the listing:

Like a charming cottage tucked into one of West End Avenue's premier cooperative buildings. This 2BR apartment offers excellent accessibility with a stair-free progress from sidewalk to front door, while providing full-service security and privacy with windows significantly elevated above ground level- looking east over the garden and south above the building's side courtyard. Gracious entry foyer opens to a loft-like living space between split bedrooms.

The enormous living room is warm and flexible with broad, art-ready walls and a windowed dining area that can seat eight guests. Both bedrooms overlook the leafy back garden and feature excellent closet space. Windowed bathroom is clad in marble tile and has updated fixtures.

Nick Arrojo

Hair stylist Nick Arrojo’s work can be seen on red carpets, runways, and early episodes of “What Not to Wear.” His Manhattan salons include a Tribeca outpost and a Soho flagship, and his apartment in Hudson Square would appear to be right between the two. However, the New York Post reported that he and his wife Lina have listed the light-filled apartment for $5 million.

From the listing:

With over 50 feet of glass, #11GH is flooded with an abundance of natural light, expansive skyline and city views, multiple exposures, and picturesque panoramas. The large master bedroom includes a large spa-like bath, with plenty of closet space, a built-in vanity, and serene views of the Zen garden and city.

Gene Kaufman

565-Broadway-1 Prince Tower Building via Stephen P. Wald
Examples of Gene Kaufman’s work can be seen in hotels throughout the city, but where does the architect himself call home? He’s working on that—earlier this month, he visited the Soho loft that served as setting and character in “The Real World.” A source tells the New York Post that he liked what he saw and even started drawing up floor plans. Indeed, the loft’s Corinthian cast-iron columns, soaring barrel-vaulted ceilings, and enormous windows are catnip to all architecture enthusiasts.

From the listing:

Located in the 1860 Prince Tower Building on the prime Soho corner of Prince Street and Broadway in the Soho Historical Cast Iron District, this loft is truly the last evidence of the original artistic loft reminiscent of the late 1980's that simply no longer exists.

It features an awe-inspiring ceiling height of 17 feet with exposed brick vault detailing, dramatic 12 foot tall windows, stunning cast iron Corinthian columns, and the original Italian Carrara marble floors which were once the highlight in the luxury showroom (before it became a residence) which rivalled Tiffany's in the early 19th Century. Characteristic of the architecture for this time, this loft is proportioned to scale in every way and there are almost no structural support walls.
Prince Tower Building has 2 available listings from $2.6M.
