Today, Related Companies and high-end retailer Neiman Marcus debuted a model residence at Fifteen Hudson Yards. Fifteen Hudson Yards is the game-changing complex’s first condominium tower with residences, designed and styled by Ken Downing. Downing, the Senior Vice President and Fashion Director for Neiman Marcus, has worked with the highest profile designers in the fashion industry, like Zac Posen and Stella McCartney. Now, Hudson Yards’ prospective buyers can buy an apartment fashioned by Ken and/or just its art and furnishings.
This is a trend, which we have seen before with Neal Beckstedt’s pop up shop in DDG’s XOCO Soho, Restoration Hardware’s design of the 88&90 Lexington model apartment and high-end art galleries that adorn the walls of for-sale residences, seems to be catching on as luxury buildings’ and luxury retail target similar clientele.

Downing says his designs are inspired by lifelong travels to the world's fashion capitals. According to Downing, he estimates he travels 85% of his life. He also attributes his inspiration to a passion for art collecting and the building's sweeping skyline views. For Fifteen Hudson Yards, Downing channeled Neiman Marcus' luxury jet set and created a “jewel box in the sky” to go beyond creating a home, to make a statement.
In 2016, Ken Downing told the Observer, “ If I were not in the fashion world, I would be in some form of interior design or decoration.” Well, now he does both.

Downing believes, “Great design breaks boundaries and creates the unexpected experience that inspires our everyday lives. Art truly satisfies the soul and gives the imagination room to dream… I have long believed that when you surround yourself with truly inspirational objects, you feel more alive.” With his fashion designer roots, Downing paired colors from the runway with a selection of art and furniture to enhance the space.
