While New York no longer has the tallest or most daring skyscrapers in the world, it still builds some of the classiest, most urbanistic high-rises anywhere. Downtown's latest sky-flung affair comes in at 111 Murray Street, an elegant new condo development conceived by Fisher Brothers, Witkoff and New Valley.
Soaring from a small corner site at the meeting of Tribeca, the Financial District, and Battery Park City, the 792-foot-tall tower is a block from the Hudson River and not far from the new World Trade Center. Designed by the pre-eminent firm of Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), the 64-floor spire impresses with its slim proportions and curvaceous form that flares as it rises. Inspired by a Murano glass vase, the concrete frame is wrapped in a seamless, reflective glass facade that culminates with an "apostrophe top" for additional skyline distinction.

Manhattan isn't known for its curves, mostly due to the street grid, zoning, and extraordinary land values that keep the built environment high and tight. So when a soft-cornered, free-standing anomaly such as this tower, the Lipstick Building, and 17 State Street comes along, it is a refreshing surprise — especially when near water and/or open sky.
As seen in the photo below by NYConstructionPhoto, 111's curvaceous form completes the lower Manhattan skyline when viewed from the north and west. It parallels the buildings and geography of Battery Park City, which juts inland just north of the project site. Other recent curvy creations in the city include the KPF-designed One Jackson Park, 160 Leroy, and the bloated Goldman Sachs headquarters nearby.
Inside are 157 residences in one- to five-bedroom configurations. Closings have been trickling in since April and a press release from earlier this week reports the building is ready for occupancy. According to our closing data, five closings have been recorded so far, coming in at an average of $2,346/ft². The biggest recorded sale is a 4-bed, 4.5-bath on the 19th floor that sold for $6.7 million.

Of the total 157 units, there are currently nine apartments for sale: three two-bedroom units starting from $4 million, 2 three-bedroom units starting from $4.35 million, 3 three-bedroom units starting from $6.2 million, 2 four-bedroom units starting from $7.7 million, and 2 five-bedroom units starting from $16.9 million.
David Mann of MR Architecture & Décor served as the project's interior designer. The homes have entry foyers, white oak floors in a herringbone pattern throughout, and of course, floor-to-ceiling windows. Kitchens are also windowed and have cabinetry by Molteni in cerused white oak complemented by marble waterfall countertops and Wolf, Sub-Zero, and Miele appliances. Master baths are located on the perimeter walls to provide skyline views from the floating tubs.

Hill West are the architects of record and David Rockwell designed the 24-hour attended lobby that has anodized steel walls, hand-blown glass lighting, and travertine floors. Edmund Hollander Design Landscape Architects designed a surrounding 10,600-square-foot plaza to welcome the public and transition residents from the buzz of the city.
The Rockwell-designed amenities, which span more than 20,000 square feet, include a lounge with 15-foot ceilings and a grand stone and steel fireplace. Adjacent is a dining room that overlooks a private garden and is connected to a private patisserie with daily offerings and a professional demonstration kitchen. Other perks include a game room, a children's recreation area with an interactive Imagination Playground, a state-of-the-art 3,000 square-foot fitness center with a separate yoga studio, a spa, a 75-foot lap pool, hot tub, and a 25-foot-wide splash pool with floor-mounted water jets.
