It seems no city neighborhood will be spared from the march of upscale high-rise buildings. Over in Sheepshead Bay, where you’d be hard-pressed to find a building over 8 floors, a 30-story rental building has taken shape at 1501 Voorhies Avenue. Named Avalon Brooklyn Bay, the tower soars from a large and peculiar-shaped parcel that is sided by the B and Q line’s Sheepshead Bay station.
In case you couldn’t tell from its name, the building’s developer is AvalonBay Communities. The Virginia-based company has finished nearly a dozen rental buildings in the city and has built two of them in northern Brooklyn: Avalon Willoughby and Avalon Fort Greene. Now the developer is set to take on the borough’s southern flatlands. Per the newly-launched website, leasing will begin on its 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom residences this winter. Given the building’s height over the neighborhood, most apartments will offer sweeping views through floor-to-ceiling windows of the city and nearby Atlantic Ocean. Many units will also be outfitted with private balconies.

Kitchens will be equipped with ENERGY STAR® stainless steel appliances, quartz-stone countertops, and tile backsplashes. Additionally, all units are to feature hard-surface plank flooring and washer and dryer bundles. Some units will have walk-in closets.
If you can ever pull yourself away from your apartment and its marvelous views, the building offers an unparalleled amenity package that includes a 19th floor Sky Lounge featuring indoor and outdoor spaces, a 2,500 square foot fitness center with a yoga/spin studio, an outdoor swimming pool with sun deck, cabanas, fire pit, and entertaining spaces, and an outdoor courtyard with a covered terrace, entertaining kitchen, barbecue grills, billiards table, and bocce court. Other amenities include on-site parking, bike storage, indoor children’s play area and a WAG Pet Spa and outdoor WAG Pet Run.

Residents can enjoy a relatively short bike ride to Manhattan Beach, Coney Island and the Rockaways. Commutes to Manhattan are quick and easy with the Sheephead Bay train station next door. The building is also close to the Belt Parkway which offers easy access to the Verrazano Bridge, Long Island, and JFK Airport.
