Hovering over the iconic Manhattan Bridge, the 80-story condominium under construction at One Manhattan Square is on its way to completion. The Lower East Side building holds 811 residences which are now selling and the building is expected to open next year. While the One Manhattan Square development includes a portion of rental units reserved for affordable housing, these units are located inside a separate new structure at 229 Cherry Street. Now nearing completion, this 13-story building sits right next to the amenity-filled, luxury condo. While residents at 229 Cherry won’t have access to all of the amenities at One Manhattan Square, which will span 100,000 square feet and feature a teahouse and treehouse, residents of both buildings will have access to the same parking lot. A housing lottery for the affordable units opened last fall and qualifying applicants were able to apply until January 2, 2018 and residents of Manhattan Community Board 3 are to be given preference for 50 percent of the units.
