Earlier this week, the de Blasio administration launched the first phase of NYC Ferry —an ambitious transportation initiative that allows commuters to ferry between several waterfront neighborhoods for a low cost of $2.75 per ride. The two now-active routes comprise the old East River Ferry route and will continue to serve Midtown East, Long Island City, Greenpoint, Williamsburg, DUMBO and the Financial District; and a second brand-new course that provides service between the Rockaways, Sunset Park and the Financial District.

Despite the forecast of rising sea levels and an increasing threat of cyclones, waterfront development is surging in the city. A little more than a decade ago, the Bloomberg administration spearheaded the vision (and eventual rezonings) to reconnect New Yorkers to the Brooklyn and Queens shorelines. Since then, enclaves of high-rise communities have risen in LIC’s Hunters Point South and Williamsburg-Greenpoint waterfronts which one day is projected to be a continuous necklace of development fronted by a public esplanade.

This current administration’s NYC Ferry and BQX streetcar hopes to further catalyze new residential and commercial development, and expand the opportunities to area farther out from the city’s historic core. By summer 2018, the network is scheduled to be expanded to Soundview, Astoria, Yorkville, Lenox Hill, Roosevelt Island, the Lower East Side, Red Hook, and Bay Ridge.

So, with the incredible investment to the city’s waterfront areas, making them both more desirable and accessible, we thought many New Yorkers would be taking second looks at these once-obscure locations to live and invest. See below our list of top 10 new condo developments convenient to the NYC Ferry. Even without the transportation links, these buildings offer their residents magnificent unimpeded views, hotel-style amenities and a growing number of neighborhood attractions.

101 Wall Street isn't exactly a new development but the former FiDi office tower just had its interiors renovated by the renowned Dutch architect Piet Boon to hold 52 condominium units.
