With summer behind us and quick dips of cold temperatures reminding us to get out the sweaters, nothing makes the thought of winter more bearable than sitting in front of a roaring fireplace. This is when the Danish concept of “Hygge” comes back into common parlance and we replace the images of warm weather with warm fireplaces. Below, CityRealty compiled a list of eight beautiful fireplaces in lobbies and amenity space that set the tone for the apartments.

Carnegie Hill real estate-03 180 East 88th Street (DDG)
Situated in the Upper East Side's Carnegie Hill neighborhood, DDG's 180 East 88th Street brings the warmth of its handmade brick façade indoors with a grand lobby featuring a custom fireplace. The building's lobby has impressive vaulted ceilings and Italian travertine flooring inlaid with Austrian white oak and an elegant fireplace. A custom, one-of-a-kind wall installation created by German plaster artisan Jan Hooss hangs above the fireplace, paying homage to the plaster and stucco that was prevalent in Upper East Side architecture at the turn of the 20th century.

A four-bedroom duplex has 28' ceilings, prewar-inspired detailing, and cinematic views of the Midtown skyline, Central Park, and the George Washington Bridge. Eight floors of amenities include a fitness studio, double-height basketball court, playroom, game room, and lounge with catering kitchen.
