Waterline Square, the massive, five-acre, three-tower luxury residential development at the crossroads of Midtown and the Upper West Side is partnering with Culture Corps, an art advisory and creative consultancy firm, to curate the vast collection of artwork. The multi-building project was designed by architects Richard Meier & Partners Architects, Rafael Viñoly Architects, and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates with Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects leading the design of a central 2.6-acre public park.
According to James Linsley, developer and President of GID Development Group, “Waterline Square represents the intersection of art, architecture, and design, and seamlessly combines these three elements to create an authentic, place-making experience for future residents. We are working closely with Culture Corps to source and purchase pieces that will elevate areas such has lobbies, residential corridors, and amenity spaces. Our commitment to quality development does that stop at the building itself, and we believe this art program will genuinely enrich the lives of residents at Waterline Square.”
“The artworks at Waterline Square exemplify a modern aesthetic that reflect the design and feel of the overall development by an elite team of architects and interior designers.” -Doreen Remen, Founding Partner of Culture Corps.
At this week’s CS Talks, Brooklyn-based, internationally renowned artist Luigi Cazzaniga unveiled Waterline’s first art commission: a custom-designed light installation which drew inspiration from Waterline Square’s 2.6-acre park.
Cazzaniga created a video depicting the natural world through digital manipulation for the installation. Waterline Square’s park inspired the installation’s floral forms, color, pattern, and light. “The artworks at Waterline Square exemplify a modern aesthetic that reflect the design and feel of the overall development by an elite team of architects and interior designers,” said Doreen Remen, Founding Partner of Culture Corps. “Each piece is elegant and refined, and we’re excited to bring such a vast collection to one of the city’s most anticipated and important new residential developments.”
Culture Corps will curate the full art collection from emerging and established local and international artists. Each piece of art will center on one of four themes that summarize the development: urban meets domestic, high-design, water, and park and nature as one. The Waterline Square’s collection will be on display in all common and amenity spaces.
Situated between West 59th Street and West 61st Street on the Hudson River, Waterline Square features 263 condominiums that begin on or above the 20th floor of each building. With interiors by Champalimaud Design, Yabu Pushelberg, and Groves & Co., residences offer river and city views, all set within a park. The Mathews Nielsen-designed Waterline Square Park encompasses nearly three acres and features a stunning landscape that includes tree-lined groves, open grass areas, walking paths, a playground, fountains, and other water features. Waterline Square’s expected first occupancy is slated to begin in Spring 2019.
