The first leg of the Second Avenue Subway has finally opened and is already connecting far-flung reaches of the Upper East Side with central Manhattan neighborhoods. As a result, a collection of new projects is springing up near the line’s three new stations. One of the first to come out of the ground will be Fimida Enterprises and Mink Development’s 48-unit condominium tower named Vitre. Its mid-block site at 302 East 96th Street replaces a 3-story parking garage and is located just around the corner from the subway line’s current 96th Street terminus.

Designed by the high-volume office of Karl Fischer, the project will rise 21-stories over its Yorkville neighborhood offering residents unique views of the East River, RFK-Triborough Bridge and the Queens waterfront. The registration website describes the building as, "A unique condominium on the Upper East Side that combines sophisticated design with the highest quality materials—all wrapped in a stunning glass façade." Its residences will have open kitchens with Italian cabinetry, integrated dishwashers, Bertazzoni gas ranges and ovens and Liebherr refrigerators. Bathrooms will be finished in Italian porcelain tiles and Newform faucets and shower fixtures.

New renderings show there will be a double-height attended lobby and a furnished communal terrace at the rear of the second level. Other amenities will include on-site parking for eight vehicles and rooftop terrace.
Site excavation is ongoing and occupancy is slated for 2018. Across East 96th Street, AvalonBay Communities is partnering with the city’s Department of Education to develop a 68-story tower that will include 1,100 rental apartments, two new public school buildings and 20,000 square feet of retail space.
