Silver Towers are stunning, twin, 60-story apartment towers at 606 West 42^nd Street on the west side of 11^th Avenue that were erected in 2006 by Silverstein Properties and designed by Costas Kondylis. 

Clad in silver-reflective-glass, the slender towers contain 882 rental apartments.

Bottom Line

Midtown’s fabulous twin towers are the most glamorous buildings on 42^nd Street after the Chrysler Building and are a fitting backdrop for one of Tom Otterness’s huge and vastly charming masterpieces of childish sculpture.

Description

The base of the towers has a large plaza with a giant bronze sculpture by Tom Otterness of one of his adorable critters. 

James Carpenter Design Associates designed the private drive and courtyard and Thomas Balsey Associates designed the quarter-acre park with willow and linden grove. 

The towers occupy the eastern half of the full-block assemblage by Silverstein Properties that in 2001 had erected its mammoth, angled, 41-story, 921-unit, red-brick apartment building known as River Place at 650 West 42nd Street at the western end of the site that overlooks the Hudson River. 

The two halves of the block anchor the western terminus of 42^nd Street and led to its spectacular rebuilding in the early years of this millennium.

Amenities

Amenities include a doorman, a concierge, a live-in superintendent, a gym with 75-foot-long swimming pool, a business center, valet and housekeeping services, a children’s playground, a sun deck, a 194-car garage, a library, good transportation, an enclosed dog run, a nail salon, a yoga studio, a children’s screening room, outdoor misting showers and an entertaining terrace with barbecue.

It is close to the Hudson River and not too far from Times Square.

Apartments

Apartments have Bosch washers and dryers and stainless-steel kitchen appliances. 

A two-bedroom unit has a 21-foot-long living/dining room with an open kitchen. 

A one-bedroom unit has a 24-foot-long living/dining room with an open kitchen. 

A studio unit in the south tower on the 55^th floor has a 17-foot-long living/dining room with an open kitchen and a 12-foot-long alcove and a very large wrap-around terrace.

History

Some apartments are rented furnished by Oakwood Worldwide, which acquired the ExecuStay corporate housing brand in 2012 from Marriott International Inc.
