This 18-story, white-brick apartment building was erected in 1956, five years after the completion of the mammoth and highly influential, white-brick, full-block, residential enclave known as Manhattan House across the avenue between 65th and 66th Streets.

The 200-unit building was converted to a cooperative in 1990. It benefits considerably from that Manhattan House is setback substantially from 66th Street and also from Second Avenue above its one-story base, thus creating an unusual amount of precious "light and air" for this building.

In contrast to the spacious lobby, extensive landscaping and many balconies of Manhattan House, this fairly austere building has n pleasant but not large lobby and no landscaping.

This area is one of the most attractive on Second Avenue because of the striking, rounded, tall, black-glass apartment set in its own plaza across from this building and the attractive movie theater one block south on the avenue. Second Avenue does, however, have considerable traffic going to the Queensboro Bridge and the Queens-Midtown Tunnel.
