between Henry Street & Clinton Street View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 166 Montague Street by Carter Horsley

This stately and very handsome, Romanesque Revival-style, 10-story building at 166 Montague Street at Clinton Street in Brooklyn Heights was erected in 1892 and was designed by George L. Morris for the Franklin Trust.

It was converted to 23 condominium apartments in 2016 by United Management.

The conversion was designed by RKTB Architects and involved the creation of a rooftop terrace, a skylit health club, balconies on its west façade and a one-story glass addition on Clinton Street for the developer.

It was described as “the first skyscraper in Brooklyn Heights” in the 2015 book, “Brooklyn Heights, The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of America’s First Suburb,” by Robert Furman, the president of the Brooklyn Preservation Council Foundation.

The building is convenient to public transportation.
