10 East 85th Street: Review and Ratings

between Fifth Avenue & Madison Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 10 East 85th Street by Carter Horsley

This attractive, beige-brick, 9-story building is a cooperative and was erected in 1925. It has 37 apartments.

The mid-block building is just to the west of two modern townhouses, just to the east of the luxury pre-war apartment building at 1035 Fifth Avenue, down the block from the imposing luxury apartment tower at 30 East 85th Street and across the street from the very fine Art Deco-style apartment building t 3 East 85th Street.

While this block obviously has its architectural attractions, it is also considerable traffic as it leads directly into the westward bound transverse road in Central Park at Fifth Avenue.

This building has a doorman, a canopied entrance with a very nice vestibule with fine wrought-iron doors, sidewalk landscaping, protruding air-conditioners, consistent fenestration, a one-story rusticated limestone base, some nice decorative façade detailing and arched windows on its top floor.

The building has no health club, no garage and no roof deck. It is half a block from a supermarket and there is very good local shopping and several nearby restaurants. There are cross-town buses on 84th and 86th Streets and an express subway station at 86th Street and Lexington Avenue.

The building is convenient to Museum Mile and there are numerous religious institutions nearby as well.
