Review of 4 East 88th Street by Carter Horsley

This very handsome, Georgian-style apartment building was built in 1922 and converted to a cooperative in 1958.

The stately, 9-story, red-brick building has 34 apartments.

The building has consistent, multipaned fenestration and a canopied entrance that leads to a pleasant and bright lobby with an attractive black-and-white marble floor. The windows on the first floor are set in arched masonry surrounds with circular stone insets. The building is across the street from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and half a block from Central Park.

This is a prime Carnegie Hill location, close to several private schools, many major cultural institutions and several religious institutions.

This is an attractive quiet block. A supermarket is about two blocks away and there are several nice restaurants along Madison Avenue a few blocks to the north. There is excellent cross-town bus service at 86th Street.

The building has a doorman, sidewalk landscaping and its entrance is flanked by small lanterns. It has no balconies, garage, no health club and no sundeck.
