Review of 7 East 86th Street by Carter Horsley

This pleasant gray-brick rental apartment building has a superb location close to Fifth Avenue, Central Park and many major cultural institutions.

The 17-story building has four apartments a floor, half studios and half one-bedrooms.

It has a canopied entrance with a one-story, polished gray granite base. The building has discrete air-conditioners, a doorman, and an attractive rooftop watertank enclosure. Because the building across the street at the corner is a lovely, large Georgian-style mansion that is the new home of the Serge Sabarsky museum of German Expressionist painting, many apartments have excellent partial, angled views of Central Park. The three top floors have angled corner windows.

This neighborhood at the south end of the Carnegie Hill District is quiet and has good local shopping and many churches and excellent schools. There is excellent west-bound cross-town bus service on the street, and the east-bound service is at Madison Avenue. An express subway station is at Lexington Avenue.
