between Central Park West & Columbus Avenue View Full Building Profile

Review of 5 West 86th Street by Carter Horsley

This very pleasant rental apartment building has a fine location just off Central Park West and a very short walk to Central Park.

There is a subway station and bus stops at the corner at this major cross-town intersection.

The building has an orange-colored masonry that is similar to that of the handsome SAJ Synagogue and Hebrew School that is immediately adjacent to it to the west.

The building has a two-story limestone base with fluted columns flanking its entrance. It has a pleasant, mirrored lobby and a very handsome bandcourse above the seventh floor and a nice cornice.

The building has a doorman and some corner windows, but no sidewalk landscaping, no garage and no balconies. It has consistent fenestration and permits protruding air-conditioners.

This is a very convenient location on an attractive street with many handsome townhouse structures and an entrance to the Central Park drive is one block south at 85th Street. The area has good schools and several religious institutions and one of the city's nicest strips of sidewalk caf¿s is just to the south on Columbus Avenue.
