between Kane Street & De Graw Street View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 29 Tiffany Place by Carter Horsley

This red-brick, 8-story condominium apartment building at 29 Tiffany Place in the Columbia Street Waterfront District of the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn was erected in 1930.

The building was originally two red-brick warehouses and it was expanded in 2019 with a roof-top addition by Anderson Associates and Century Building Associates.

The building has 70 apartments.

The dramatic, light-colored rooftop addition, which includes an exposed watertank, was designed by David Howell of DHD Architecture Design.

Bottom Line

This setback, white top above the red-brick masonry former warehouse structures conjures a new-fangled cruise ship with a round "wheel-house" element commanding a view of inland Brooklyn buoyed by a small cantilevered section while the waterfront end of the building has a traditional exposed watertank playing the "role" of a ship's smokestack.

Description

The building's pre-war, red-brick base's only concession to modernity to a multi-paneled glass entrance canopy with two smaller multi-paned lobby sconces.

Its setback, white top, however, looks a bit like a new-fangled cruise-ship with a round "wheel-house" element commanding a view of inland Brooklyn buoyed by a small cantilever section while the waterfront end of the building has a traditional exposed watertank playing the "role" of a ship's smokestack.

The base of the building has slightly arched windows and a two-step-up, canopied entrance.

Another street entrance has a multi-paned glass canopy that leads to a vestibule with multi-paned glass sconces.

Amenities

The building has a part-time doorman, roof deck, outdoor parking, a residents' lounge, a live-in superintendent, a porter, a laundry room, a garden, a courtyard, a fitness center, a bicycle room and storage.  It permits cats and dogs and has a shuttle to Borough Hall in the morning and evening.
