Snuggled close by the Brooklyn end of the Manhattan Bridge, this 18-story residential condominium building at 189 Bridge Street was completed in 2007 and commands spectacular views of the Lower Manhattan skyline, East River bridges and downtown Brooklyn.
Michael Tong, the developer, was quoted by Linda Collins in an August 26, 2006 article at brooklyneagle.com that "basically every apartment will have a fantastic view and not just those on the high floors; we're already on a little hill, we're 50 feet above sea level, so we will have great views from every level."
The building is notable not only for its very prominent location, but also for its many balconies with rounded corners, its pinkish concrete façade with incised lines, and its stack of oval windows on one façade.
The building has 58 apartments, a skylit lobby with a 20-foot ceiling, a doorman, 24-hour concierge service, shuttle service to the F subway Jay Street station at rush hours, a garage, a fitness center, and two gardens.
Each apartment has SubZero refrigerators, Viking ranges, Bosch dishwashers, wine cooler and double-deck washers and dryers.
The 17th and 18th floors are a 5,000-square-foot duplex penthouse unit with views in all directions and a double-height living room and two glass staircases. In August, 2010, it was priced at $7 million.
The building, which is also known as 166 Nassau Street, reduced some apartment prices in March, 2010 and about 20 units were acquired by an investor to rent.
