11 Waverly Place: Review and Ratings

between Mercer Street & Greene Street View Full Building Profile

Review of 11 Waverly Place by Carter Horsley

This handsome rental apartment building has an excellent Greenwich Village location as it is one block from Washington Square to the west and one block from the hustle and bustle of Broadway to the east.

It is very convenient to public transportation as two subway lines have stations nearby to the east and bus service, both crosstown and north and south is excellent.

While the retail activity on Eighth Street, one block to the north, and Broadway is hectic, diverse and interesting, this location is quite quiet although it is surrounded by many buildings of New York University.

Erected in 1926, the building has many interesting architecture touches: an attractive, large bandcourse above the second floor has occasional "drips" that add subtle vertical accents to the building; and the building has an unusual roofline that has breaks where large decorative window overhangs serve as partial cornices. The brown-brick building has several decorative terracotta window surrounds and multipaned windows add to its façade's texture.

The 13-story building has 182 apartments, some of whichare furnished, video security and a doorman.

This neighborhood abounds in boutiques and restaurants and is very lively and close to the NoHo and SoHo districts.
