60 East 13th Street: CARTER'S REVIEW

One of the amazing things about cities is that things can change dramatically not only “just around the corner” but also “just down the block.”

This very handsome, mid-block loft building was converted in 2004 to seven condominium apartments. A new coat of white paint and strong façade lighting have transformed this otherwise rather bland and quiet street into a land of discovery. The building s architecture is not spectacular, just very, very nice and robust with a large balustraded balcony on the third floor that has enormous brackets.

The top four floors of this 8-story building have a rusticated façade and the apartments feature ceilings as high as 15 feet and large windows and living rooms that are larger than 23 by 29 feet. The building has an exposed rooftop watertank.

Initial pricing for a 2,575-square-foot unit with one-and-a-half bathrooms was $1,775,000.

One block north of this building is Union Square Park, one of the city’s most bustling. Famous for its truck farmers on the weekends, protestors at various times, and loungers, the park is surrounded by many stores and restaurants and has excellent public transportation.

One block south of this building is Strand Books, one of the city’s best and most famous. A cineplex is just across Broadway and one of the city’s finest Japanese restaurants is one block to the south on University Place near Bowlmor, a popular bowling alley.

There are numerous educational and religious institutions near by and this location is convenient to the Flatiron, Park Avenue South, Gramercy Park, East Village, Greenwich Village and Chelsea neighborhoods.
