The Avon House, 340 East 74th Street: Review and Ratings

between Second Avenue & First Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 340 East 74th Street by Carter Horsley

This attractive, 12-story, mid-block building was erected in 1957 and converted to a cooperative in 1990. It has 119 units.

The beige-brick building has a canopied entrance with a large lobby and handsome sidewalk landscaping. The building has a doorman, discrete air-conditioners, and a garage but no balconies and no health club.

It is across the street from the Jan Hus Presbyterian Church and the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral. It also across the street from The Forum, a large apartment tower at 343 East 74th Street.

There are numerous good restaurants in the area and good local shopping nearby on Third Avenue. There is good cross-town bus service on 72nd Street, but the nearest subway station is a few blocks away at Lexington Avenue and 77th Street where Lenox Hill Hospital is also located.
