The Pearl - 400 East 66th Street: CARTER'S REVIEW

This 23-story rental building, which is known as The Pearl, was erected at 400 East 66th Street in 1999 by Laurence Ginsberg and his sisters, Hilary Feshbach and Liane Ginsberg.

The 127-unit building was designed by James Davidson of Schuman Lichtenstein Claman & Efron, who told The New York Times April 16, 1999 that "We are accentuating the verticality of the building through the use of chevron-profiled limestone and cast stone piers framing window wall construction."

The building, which is also known as 1220 First Avenue, has 40 studios, 56 one-bedroom units, 28 two-bedroom apartments and three penthouse units. The building has 24-hour doormen and a fitness center and Buck/Cane designed the public spaces.

It has about 5,500 square feet of medical offices.

Mr. Ginsberg father, Albert Ginsberg, began the business that includes Algin Management Company when he acquired a 300-unit rental complex in Forest Hills, Queens, in 1957 that is now a co-op but still managed by the company. that also has about 4,000 rental units in Queens in Manhattan.
