Overview

   About 300 West 72nd Street

This is one of those incongruous buildings that make New York so extraordinary. It is a very ordinary building at a very fine location surrounded by very handsome buildings.

This six-story, white-brick apartment building was erected in 1920 and converted to a cooperative in 1983. It has 35 apartments.

Apart from its elegant and very desirable location, it has few redeeming features. It has no doorman. It has unexciting fire escapes above its entrance and on the avenue. It has no sidewalk landscape, no health club, and no garage.

It is, however, one block from to Riverside Park to the west and one block from an express subway station to the east. This neighborhood has good shopping and is not far from the bustling Lincoln Center district to the south.

The area should continue to improve because of mammoth residential development at Riverside South, a Donald Trump project, nearby along Riverside Drive, and the huge mixed-use redevelopment of the New York Coliseum site at Columbus Circle to the south.
