Fowler Court at 400 Riverside Drive on the northeast corner at 112th Street is a very handsome, red-brick building that was erected in 1908 and has 58 co-operative apartments.

It is 7 stories tall and was designed by George F. Pelham, whose other buildings include 944, 1120 and 1160 Park Avenue, 33, 67, 98, 300, 468 (Concord Hall), 550 (Alabama) and 552 (Madrid) Riverside Drive, 1136 Fifth Avenue, 270, 470, 545, 585, 675 and 710 West End Avenue, 70, 74, 90, 100, 106, 110, and 114 Morningside Drive, 81 Irving Place and 112 East 17th Street.


 

Bottom Line

This very attractive and sprightly mid-rise building is in the middle of one of Riverside Drive’s handsomest stretches.


 

Description

The building is distinguished by its many bay windows and notched stone window surrounds.  The building has an entrance gate topped by globular lights and a deep entrance light-well.

It has a two-story limestone base and the ground floor is rusticated.

It is also surrounded by a very attractive, low, two-rail “moat.”


 

Amenities

Bicycle room, storage, laundry, live-in superintendent and pets are allowed.


 

Apartments

There are some decorative fireplaces and some decorative moldings.

Most apartments have high ceilings.

Apartment 3E is a one-bedroom unit with a 13-foot-wide living room that opens onto a 13-foot-wide dining room next to an enclosed kitchen.

Apartment 6D is a three-bedroom unit with a 10-foot-long entry foyer that leads to a 66-foot-long gallery that leads to a 14-foot-long library that opens onto a 17-foot-long living room with a fireplace that opens onto a 17-foot-long dining room that is near a 13-foot-long maid[s room and a 13-foot-long eat-in enclosed kitchen.

Apartment 5F is a two-bedroom unit that has a very long entry gallery that leads to a 15-foot-long living room with French doors opening to a 15-foot-long dining room next to a 12-foot-long kitchen.

Apartment 1G is a two-bedroom unit that has a 23-foot-long living room that has a 7-foot-long study alcove and a 9-foot-long dining alcove next to a 9-foot-square kitchen.
