Above it All: Rooftop Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel

MAY 28, 2010

You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy the formerly private bar atop the Gramercy Park Hotel.

Though the “Private Roof Club and Garden” mentioned on the hotel’s web site may imply otherwise, the recently Schrager-ized boutique hotel offers a slice of rooftop paradise to anyone with a bit of advance planning (calling ahead is recommended, as the space gets crowded during peak party hours). Just ask for the key card to the penthouse at the hotel’s front desk, then proceed to the public portion of the terrace. Surrounding areas are reserved for private parties, but there’s plenty of room in the formerly-restricted garden space above the Rose and Jade bars—with their non-stop over-the top ’80s decor designed in part by artist Julian Schnabel—for killer city views and cocktails under the command of bartenders from upscale Williamsburg speakeasy Hotel Delmano.
