It's a Dog's Life

APRIL 5, 2011

Humans aren’t the only ones with cabin fever.

There are more ways every day for city pups and their people to get out of the house to meet and greet, learn new tricks, score some treats and stay in shape.

If you’re of the human persuasion and you just can’t get enough canine time, Anthony Jerone’s School of Dog Training can not only teach your pet to behave but also teach puppy lovers to become certified dog trainers. The school offers Doggie Boot Camp sessions in a park environment to introduce basic training principles. There’s also a seminar on introducing dogs to babies to help allay your fears about introducing your new family member to your pet, or vice versa.

There are plenty of fitness options to help your pet stay in shape or just get off the couch. Blending two New York City favorites (bagels, Central Park), Bagel Bark events meet monthly at various locations in the park (via Nearsay). Central Park PAWS runs the event. More person/pup meetups include the Small Dog Playgroup and many more, with events often held at full-service daycare centers like Biscuits & Bath. Canine Styles keeps you in the loop on four-legged fashion. Urbanhound keeps pups plugged in and is a good resource for staying up-to-date on city pet laws, rules and regs. And sometimes, even a dog needs a lawyer.
