NYC Living This Week: Springtime Edition

APRIL 24, 2012

Five great ways to celebrate spring living in NYC.

1. Enjoy spring’s prettiest blooms. Check out the cherry-blossom-centric events at the Sakura Matsuri festival, a celebration of traditional and contemporary Japanese culture at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden on April 28th and 29th; in Manhattan, you’ll never run out of flower gardens to discover in Central Park.

2. Prepare fresh, seasonal vegetables from your local greenmarket or CSA–you’ll find at least one in almost every neighborhood from FiDi to Union Square to Harlem.

3. Grab your helmet and get ready for Bike Month in May. The New Amsterdam Bicycle Show 2012 happens the weekend of April 28th and 29th, so head to SoHo to see the latest on two wheels, plus ideas on how to pimp your ride, bike giveaways, a fashion show, a beer garden and more.

4. Get a head start on the city’s street fairs and flea markets. The Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair kicks things off on Saturday, April 28th. The Hester Street Fair will be up and running again on the Lower East Side and the Brooklyn Flea is back outside.

5. Open houses! A new crop of NYC apartments usually hits the market in springtime. If you’re looking, pound the pavement, fall in love with a neighborhood and find your new home with the help of an expert.
