Thomas Sires: A New Shop Perfects the Nolita Fashion Experience

APRIL 15, 2011

New fashion destination Thomas Sires makes perfect sense in a neighborhood that’s already a New York City girl’s dream closet.

A pedigree that includes working for covetable shoe label Loeffler Randall would, by itself, confer plenty of style cred, but Fiona Thomas and Allison Sires, co-founders of new Nolita shop Thomas Sires, have their own unique fashion agenda. Open since December, and designed by architect Jeremy Barbour (Tacklebox Archiecture) the store’s interior is a chic, minimalist mix: A West Elm with the playfulness of neon, lucite and lacquer; a high-gloss MoMA Store with the warmth of wood and brick.

The main focus is the Thomas Sires fashion label. The clothes—including menswear-inspired wool pants, sleek silk blouses and dresses and wear-it-everyday cropped French terry sweatshirts, all made in the USA—are stylish, quirky and modern. Modeled on the “lifestyle store” concept so popular in Paris and Tokyo—and found here in shops like APC, Opening Ceremony and Muji, Thomas Sires also carries a rotating collection of cool objets, a variety of shiny things from lucite necklaces, Japanese hand towels and toy hamburgers to glassware, picture books and locally-milled soaps. Next steps for Thomas Sires: wider distribution through popular retailers as well as shoes and kids’ clothes (via Refinery 29).
