186 Riverside Drive: Review and Ratings

between West 90th Street & West 91st Street View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 186 Riverside Drive by Carter Horsley

This pleasant, beige-brick building at 186 Riverside Drive on the southeast corner at 91st Street was erected in 1928 and converted to a cooperative in 1971. The 15-story building has 96 apartments.

It was designed by Emery Roth, whose other major West Side buildings include the Normandy, the San Remo and the Beresford.

Bottom Line

This is a handsome, pre-war building designed by Emery Roth with some fireplaces and an unusual roofline punctuated by angled medallions.

Description

It has an unusual roofline punctuated by large angled medallions.

The building's façades have two nice bandcourses and the slightly lower adjoining building to the south, 180 Riverside Drive, paid it a complement by lining up its lower bandcourse with that of this building.

This building’s façades have some floral medallions and sidewalk landscaping is only along Riverside Drive.

The building, which is also known as 316-322 West 91st Street, has a side-street entrance and a nice lobby as well as some protruding air-conditioners and inconsistent fenestration.

Amenities

The building has a doorman, a concierge and an elevator operator.
