Description

Perched atop one of Sutton Places' premier Rosario Candela buildings, sophisticated and elegant, this penthouse features a large private outdoor space: a contiguous terrace which wraps around three sides of the apartment. There are river views from the East terrace, northern city views from the North terrace and western city views from the West terrace. The terrace is accessed from both the living room and the master bedroom and offers numerous entertaining, seating and dining areas.

The residence is accessed from a private windowed elevator landing. The residence features very high ceilings, beautifully scaled rooms and a wood burning fireplace. It is flooded with sunlight in every room and has sparkling river and city views.

The peacefulness of Sutton Place combined with the mesmerizing river views offer an unparalleled opportunity for a gracious New York residence.

THE LIVING SPACE: The interior of the penthouse is introduced from a private windowed elevator landing. Arched doors lead from the entry foyer into a light flooded square living room with enormous double paned windows facing East and West. There are beautiful built in bookcases on either side of the wood burning fireplace.

Just off the living room is a lovely wide passage way featuring a dry bar and cabinets for storage. Through the passage is the elegantly proportioned dining room/library which may also function as a second bedroom. Extraordinary closets line a gracious long hallway leading to the primary bedroom suite.

The suite is composed of the bedroom with a door to the terrace, an impressive windowed dressing room and a beautiful windowed bath with travertine marble heated floors and a glassed in shower. The bedroom has additional built-ins and closets, fitted for accessories and clothing. There is ample space for a desk if you are working from home in either the primary bedroom, the living room or the dining/library/second bedroom.

The eat in kitchen with extensive storage space is stocked with high end appliances, including a washer and dryer. There is a full second bath with a tub/shower which can be used for guests or the second bedroom. The penthouse has two zone central air conditioning.

There are beautiful moldings and hardwood floors throughout. In addition, there is a most attractive outside room with an oversized bath and generous storage area which can function as a guest suite, home office or staff quarters.

THE TERRACE: The spectacular terrace is anchored by enormous urns which are an architectural detail of the building itself. The terrace has electricity and a watering system.

Perfect for outdoor entertaining, the terrace can be accessed from both the living room and the master bedroom. The terrace surrounds the penthouse on three sides and offers extraordinary river and city views.

THE BUILDING: Rosario Candela was an architect who is credited with defining New York's characteristic terraced setbacks and signature penthouses. The exteriors of his buildings tend to be understated yet he was considered a master of design when it came to the interiors.

His greatest work occurred during the latter half of the 1920's when he designed numerous buildings on Manhattan's East Side, primarily on Fifth and Park Avenues and Sutton Place. He achieved renown by designing many of New York's most famous buildings, including 834 Fifth Avenue, 740 Park Avenue and this building, among many others. Today, Candela-designed building sare some of the most sought after addresses in New York.

Built as a cooperative in 1928, 30 Sutton Place has a beautiful lobby, only 42 apartments and a fitness room. Known for its dedicated and conscientious staff the building has a live in super, is pet friendly and located in the illustrious Sutton Place corridor with many fine restaurants and shops a mere block away. This building offers full time doormen and staff, a fitness room and additional dedicated storage.

Pets are welcome.

THE LOCATION: Sutton Place is a peaceful enclave in the heart of Manhattan. With the East River and a small neighborhood park on one side and the city on the other side, it is convenient to all areas of Manhattan. It is completely residential, a rarity in New York.

The charming neighborhood shops are a close by and offer a diverse selection of food shops, restaurants and services.
