Description

Featured on the cover of Architectural Digest, this 3,150 sq. ft. duplex loft situated in a prime Chelsea location is a true work of art. A substantial space in a converted manufacturing warehouse, famed architect Alexander Gorlin gutted the entire first level to create a voluminous open loft with soaring ceilings. Then, film & television industry production, set & architectural designer Elvis Restaino developed the loft's aesthetic.

A painstaking multi-year process, the highly customized "modern vintage" motif combines old architectural features with modern movie-type construction. Design features include 11-ft. tall mahogany doors, a ceiling fresco in the foyer, plaster walls chipped & mottled with age, massive columns supporting limestone lions and a myriad of crystal chandeliers.

The owner describes the loft's style as "bohemian old-world rustic chateau with a taste of baroque". The main part of the loft is organized into a dining area featuring an immense medieval-style wood & iron table, a cozy living area centered around the brick-framed windows, an open kitchen with commercial grade appliances plus an excavated-looking backsplash composed of left-over floor tiles, as well as a home theatre - which is considered to be the centerpiece of the loft. The theatre's screen is framed by a pair of Indian columns, a wooden arch support from a cathedral in the Bronx plus a stone lion's head from an old library.

The loft's first level also features an office, guest bedroom with full bathroom, plus a powder room. The loft's second level features a large master suite plus 1,200 sq. ft. of private outdoor space - which is separate but adjacent to common outdoor space.
