This attractive, 12-story, mid-block apartment building at 205 West 19th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues in Chelsea has 20 apartments and was erected in 1913.  It was converted to a co-operative in 1977.

It was designed by Walter Haefeli, whose other 12-story buildings include 43 West 16th Street, 562 West End Avenue and 412 Park Avenue South that was renovated and turned into the Huys by Piet Boon.

Bottom Line

An attractive, mid-block, pre-war apartment building in Chelsea that has some large and unusual apartment layouts.

Description

The brown-brick building has a two-story limestone base, a two-story limestone top beneath a modest cornice and decorative spandrels at its sides. It has a handsome bandcourse with circular elements above the second floor and another one, somewhat shorter, beneath the top floor.

It has multi-paned windows and permits window air-conditioners.

Amenities

The building has a video intercom, a live-in superintendent and private storage.  It allows pets.

Apartments

The four-bedroom unit on the 9th floor has a 12-foot-wide entry foyer that leads to a 21-foot-wide corner living room next to a 22-foot-wide dining room adjacent to a 23-foot-wide, enclosed kitchen with an island.  The unit also has a corner, 21-foot-wide home office with three windows and a 16-foot-long study, a 17-foot-wide playroom, an 11-foot-wide media room and the corner master bedroom has a 21-foot-wide sitting room and a 16-foot-wide dressing room.

Apartment 6F is a three-bedroom unit with a 32-foot-long living/dining room next to a 21-foot-wide corner media room and a 17-foot-long eat-in kitchen with an angled breakfast bar next to the living/dining room.  The unit also has a 12-foot-wide home office and a 13-fot-wide laundry room.

Apartment 2R is a two-bedroom unit with an angled, 23-foot-long, windowed, corner kitchen with an angled island next to a 28-foot-wide living room that leads to a 19-foot-wide, angled media room and a 15-foot-wide flexible use space.
