Review of 17 John Street by Carter Horsley

This 15-story building at 17 John Street was erected in 1926 and converted to rental apartments in 1999 by MetroLoft Management.

The conversion of the 111-unit building was designed by John Averett Associates Architects. The apartments range from studios to two-bedroom units.

The building, which is known as The Metro, has a roof deck, a residents' lounge with a billard room and four retail stores with a total of almost 16,000 square feet.

It has a prime Lower Manhattan location as it is mid-block between Broadway and Broad Street and two blocks south of City Hall Park and the J & R complex of consumer electronics.

There is excellent public transportation in the area.

There is a popular "dive" bar in the basement.
