Carter Horsley's Building Review Carter Horsley
Dec 11, 2017

Carter's Review

This lovely, 6-story apartment building at 10 Holder Place in Forest Hills was erected in 1930 and designed by Grosvenor Atterbury, who also designed many of Forest Hills landmarks.

In its obituary of the architect, The New York Times maintained that his design by Forest Hills Gardens “has stood the test of time as one of the finest examples of community planning in the nation,” adding that the work included the design of the railroad station and adjoining structures” and that “Mr. Atterbury designed a special 8-by-4-foot hollow concrete block for the construction of the houses at a time when prefabrication in any form was virtually unknown.”

It was erected by the Russell Sage Foundation and was known as the Greenway Apartments.

It has 44 co-operative apartments.
