84 Oak Street: Review and Ratings

between West Street & Franklin Street View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 84 Oak Street by Carter Horsley

This very attractive, 3-story building at 84 Oak Street in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn was erected in 2017 and has 6 condominium apartments.  It was developed by Oak St. LLC, of which Sanjana Shiraz is a partner.

Steven Schneider of Schneider Associates of Watchung, N.J., was the architect.

The building was formerly a 6,500-square-foot warehouse that was sold in 2015.

It is across the street from the Brooklyn Expo Center and convenient to numerous restaurants and shops and nearby subway stations and ferry stops.

Promotion material for the building stated that "84 Oak is flanked by quiet West Street and the burgeoning retail and restaurant corridor that is Franklin Street," adding that "Opposite your home, you can sell the clothes off your kids’ back at Flying Squirrel as they outgrow them and next door at Academy Records invest the profits in some jazz records that they’ll grow into. Don’t hold back, in your home you’ll have the space to start collecting vinyl again."

Bottom Line

A small building in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, with considerable grandeur including dramatic staircases at opposite ends of the red-brick building.

Description

The building's ground floor is encircled by the angled staircases to the second floor and has sidewalk landscaping and a small entrance marquee.

The second floor has landings for the staircases that lead to entrances to two of the units beneath a broad, dark, metallic bandcourse separated by a broad masonry pier between the very large, arched, multi-pane fenestration of the third floor that is divided into two large sections of multi-paned windows that are arched the top.

The 25-foot-wide building has an attractive and modern, slim, three-level cornice.
