between Sixth Avenue & Eleventh Avenue View Full Building Profile

Carter Horsley
Review of 130 West 12th Street by Carter Horsley

This 13-story, mid-block apartment building at 130 West 12th Street is one of the handsomest in Greenwich Village.

It is part of the former St. Vincent’s Hospital complex that occupies most of the block between 11th and 12th streets and Sixth and Seventh Avenues that was acquired by The Rudin Organization.

The building was erected in 1941 and the renovation was designed by Cook + Fox Architects.

The building has 42 condominium apartments.

Bottom Line

This is a very elegant pre-war, mid-block apartment building with Art Deco touches on an excellent tree-lined street in Greenwich Village.

Description

The red-brick building has a very attractive setback, three-step-down entrance with marquee and lush sidewalk landscaping behind an ornate fence with stanchions with vase-shaped tops.

The façades detailing is very fine with a one-story stone base with banding above the windows beneath a fluted element above the windows.  The central portion of the red-brick façade is tightly fluted and the west end of the building projects out to the building line with corner windows.  There is a handsome frieze setback above the 10th floor where there are small setbacks at the east and west ends and more above the 12th floor and there is a very attractive rooftop watertank enclosure.

The building’s lobby is spacious and slightly curved and designed by Jed Johnson.

Amenities

There is a full-time doorman, a resident superintendent, a fitness center, cold storage, a roof deck, on-site power generation, filtered fresh air and water, individualized temperature control and emergency power.
