Review of 123 West 131st Street by Carter Horsley

Harlem Sol 123 consists of two mid-block buildings at 121 and 123 West 131st Street in Harlem between Lenox Avenue and Adam Clayton Boulevard.

The one at 121 is a renovated brownstone and the other is a 6-story new structure.  The development, which was erected by David Oxley of the Design & Development Group of Long Island City, contains 12 units and was completed in 2012.

Bottom Line

A nice renovation of a late 19th Century mid-block brownstone in Harlem is joined by more modern 6-story building with a small entrance marquee.

The new 6-story building has balconies on the top four floors facing the street supported by thin brackets and a reddish façade with a small entrance marquee and a small stepped cornice.

It has discrete air-conditioners.

It has 8 units.

It has a gated front yard with landscaping.

The adjacent classic brownstone dates to about 1890 has a very handsome, 10-step stoop and wooden front doors with an attractive entrance surround with light sconces.  Its ground and third floors have simple rustication and the top floor has large and attractive window surrounds beneath an deep and elaborate cornice.

Amenities

The building has a roof deck, a concierge, storage and an elevator.
