Carter Horsley's Building Review Carter Horsley
Dec 23, 2011
56 CITYREALTY RATING

Carter's Review

This 14-story apartment building was erected in 1961. It is a condominium and has 88 apartments.

Its entrance faces the walled-garden rear of the block-square Manhattan House, whose driveways and entrances are on 66th Street. Manhattan House was one of the city's first major white-brick buildings and has attractive white balconies punctuating its massive façade.

This is a very dense and active area of the Upper East Side with heavy traffic heading south on Second Avenue to the Queensborough Bridge at 59th Street. With the rebuilding of Third Avenue with many luxury apartment towers, however, the area has gained in popularity and has many neighborhood services and a lively ambiance. There is good cross-town bus service on 67th Street. A subway is at Lexington Avenue and 67th Street.

The building has a distinctive metal canopy with a pyramid roof and its two-story base has yellow panels beneath the building's gray brick, a rather unusual urban palette. The building has a health club, consistent fenestration and no balconies. The building has a large, vaulted lobby and a doorman.
